Let me be your New York City guide, on where to stay when visiting New York City. There are so many options and it’s extremely overwhelming. Plus it can be really expensive. Did you know that average price of a hotel here in New York is $350 a night? Pretty crazy. So today I’m gonna walk you through some of the ones that I think are incredibly unique and worth staying at that are under that $350 mark.
New York City’s Cheaper Months
Let’s begin our journey through New York City’s hotel scene but before I do, I want to give you two quick tips. Number one if you are on a budget a good option is Airbnb. You can find Airbnb places for as little as $30 a night. It may be sketchy if it’s $30 a night, just a heads up, but pretty good ones are like $70. So number two; the best time to visit if you’re trying to spend the least amount of money, is actually in January. The reason is because it’s freezing and they have less tourists in January. Everyone comes for the holidays. That’s the most expensive time to come, so the prices of hotels can be cut by five times from New Year’s Eve to the end of the first week of January. So if you’re looking to spend the least amount of money visiting New York come in January it’ll be the cheapest.
New York City Hotel
With that said let’s begin our tour of New York City’s hotel scene. Let’s look at the Paper Factory Hotel where you can stay in what was once a 100 year old paper factory. Now renovated into a beautiful industrial style hotel. This really is a must see hotel in NYC. The renovations cost 27 million dollars and were completed in 2012. The Paper Factory Hotel’s location is in Long Island City. This only a 15-minute ride from Manhattan with beautiful city views. It’s a lovely area in particular. It’s at the crossroads of Kaufman Studios and Astoria, which is a very international area.
They also have Queens Comfort there, which is a great brunch spot. So tons of stuff to do in this area. Close to the city, yet still far enough to have a whole real New Yorker experience. There is the eclectic decor and artistic ambiance. Enriched by modern industrial accents reminiscent of the building’s past as a paper mill Factory. They even have a game room with shuffle board and ping pong. So there’s plenty of activities to do, even if you’re not out exploring the city.
The James New York
There is another must see hotel in NYC, “The James New York.” It is in Soho which is a great spot for a couple of reasons. One being their rooftop pool bar called Jimmy at the James. One of the very best bars of New York. They’re also conveniently located in Soho which is near tons of local shops and restaurants. This is a place that you want to go if you want a more local New Yorker experience. They’re also a very contemporary and artistic hotel which brings a really nice vibe. Their penthouse suite it’s freakin’ beautiful, and the views I can’t even imagine how this would look at night. It has an amazing view of the World Trade Center as well.
The hotel is conceived and designed as a local inspiration. It is artistically approachable and community focused, environmentally thoughtful hotel. Perfect for the creative set, seeking authenticity and a connection to themselves and others. The James approach is to help you open your mind, nourish your spirit, and create an environment that allows you to be your best self. Of course what better way to do that than a penthouse suite. However, they also have tons of regular rooms available which are just as beautiful.
Hotel Giraffe is located on Park Avenue and 26th Street. It is walking distance to the Empire State Building. Also conveniently located near tourist attractions like the Sex Museum, which you have to be over 18, sorry kids! Also the Math Museum, which sounds terrible but honestly it’s really cool. You will love this place because they have complimentary wine and cheese hour. It’s every night for guests, from 5:00 to 8:00 in their lobby with a live pianist. If you eat next door at this one Bread and Tulips, then you’ll get 20% off because you’re a guest of Hotel Giraffe.
The rooms are beautifully decorated with settled giraffe art. Plus two-thirds of the rooms actually have a balcony overlooking Park Avenue. Actually, it’s really rare to have a balcony at a New York hotel, especially one that’s reasonably priced like this one. The rooftop is open during the warmer months and they sometimes even serve drinks. A great thing to do when you stay there, is go downstairs get breakfast, and bring it up to the rooftop. It’s the best way to start the day, on a New York City rooftop, just enjoying the views. They’re also part of The Library Hotel Collection. The Library Hotel has such a unique theme. It’s literally themed to a library so each floor is based off the Dewey Decimal System meaning that each floor has its own category.
